A composite installation for public spaces conceived by Emmanuel Jouthe, MIRAGES is an intimate proposition that creates a mise en abyme of the living. It takes the form of a modular series of choreographic solos, developed in close collaboration with the performers and videographer Xavier Curnillon. Accompanied by the sound world of composer Antoine Berthiaume and designed in partnership with HUB Studio, the digital projection modules bring us closer, ever closer, to dance itself. They reveal a new intimacy, a space where bodies are seen in their strength, beauty, and diversity.

Exploring the notion of intimacy, MIRAGES (in development since 2016) reimagines our relationship to others through macro shots projected into the hands, and through new perspectives offered by the camera and digital integration. The work finds meaning in its interaction with the spectator who, in a gesture of welcome, receives the dance in the hollow of the projection module.

In its full form, six modules (each inspired by the natural world and the anatomy of trees) will be arranged in a wooded setting, inviting visitors to wander through and discover the various danced “tracks” of the body’s album: skeletal, integumentary, digestive, muscular, respiratory, and nervous. The work redefines intimacy through a meeting of the digital and the organic.
